An English-speaking Lodge in Germany
Lodge Bridge of Fellowship No. 929 is an English-speaking lodge working under the Grand Lodge of British Freemasonry in Germany (GL BFG), which forms part of the United Grand Lodges of Germany – Brotherhood of Freemasons (VGLvD).
Opening the Bridge
In 1988, the lodge initiated its first non-British member – a 34-year-old German First Lieutenant in the Bundeswehr Reserve.
At that time, the lodge still met within the British military environment in Nienburg.
Early German and International Members
Among the brethren was also a German dual member, an Altstuhlmeister (Past Master) of the sister lodge Georg zum Silbernen Einhorn and likewise a Past Master (PM) of Lodge Bridge of Fellowship No. 929.
He played a significant role in fostering cordial relations between British and German Freemasons.
Later, a retired Dutch ex-officer affiliated as a joining member from a lodge under the Regular Grand Lodge of the Netherlands, adding another international element to the lodge’s membership.
From Nienburg to Hannover
When LBOF 929 later relocated from Nienburg to Hannover, following the drawdown of the British Army of the Rhine, the lodge entered a new phase.
With the city preparing for EXPO 2000 and hosting an increasing number of international companies and expatriates, the lodge’s membership and outlook became steadily more international.
The Spirit of Fellowship Today
Today, Lodge Bridge of Fellowship No. 929 continues to live up to its name – a true bridge of fellowship, connecting Masons of many nations and traditions, religions and convictions, united in friendship, tolerance, and mutual understanding.
